Nendran Banana Plant (Kerala Nendran / Plantain) – Live Fruit Sapling
Nendran Banana Plant – Live Sapling from Dream Nursery
Nendran is the famous Kerala plantain behind Nendran banana chips, pazham pori and Onam sadya. The fingers are long, thick and starchy, excellent both as a cooking plantain and as a ripe fruit. Dream Nursery supplies healthy Nendran banana saplings grown at our nursery in Perambai, Puducherry, for home gardens and commercial plots alike.
Why grow Nendran banana
- High commercial value – the preferred variety for chips, powder and value-added products.
- Bunch yield – typically 12–18 kg per bunch, with large individual fingers.
- Harvest window – first bunch in roughly 9–11 months, one of the faster varieties.
- Dual purpose – cooked green as a vegetable, eaten sweet when ripe.
Growing guide
- Sunlight: full sun, minimum 6 hours daily.
- Spacing: 6.5 x 6.5 ft in the field; a large grow bag or 24-inch pot for terrace planting.
- Soil: deep, fertile, well-drained loam enriched with farmyard manure.
- Water: Nendran is a heavy feeder and drinker – keep the soil consistently moist without waterlogging.
- Feeding: FYM at planting, then split doses of nitrogen and potash through the cycle for bigger fingers.
- Care: remove excess suckers, mulch the basin, and prop the pseudostem once the bunch forms, as Nendran bunches are heavy.
